Andy Roberts
Andy’s working career has always been in the hospitality sector, initially working as a chef in the Savoy Hotel, followed by the Connaught Hotel in Mayfair. The first management role was in a country house hotel in Devon, progressing to Director of the limited company managing the Hotel. During this period of time the hotel expanded dramatically and the turnover increased substantially.
Andy has been teaching hospitality subjects since 1985, working for the Army School of Catering, Aldershot and Cassio College, Watford before taking the appointment at UWIC in 1995. Presently he is the Programme Course Director for Hospitality courses in the Cardiff School of Management. He has been an External Examiner for other universities and for Edexcel, and participated in many external validation panels.
Since completion of the BSc Catering Management degree, he has been involved in many hospitality research projects and presented conference papers in Sweden, Norway, Poland, Greece and Egypt as well as in the UK. Andy’s PhD interest is to critically evaluate the internal and external influences on the design of the hospitality undergraduate curriculum in the UK and to explore the extent to which the curriculum meets all stakeholders needs.
Outside of work Andy has five children and two granddaughters. This gives little time for socialising although he does manage to do a lot of walking and play squash occasionally.
