HEA HLST
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
A central theme of CHME's work is the promotion of excellence in teaching, learning and assessment. To this end the aim of the LTA group is to promote and disseminate good practice in these three areas within hospitality management education. To help it achieve its aim LTAG it has the following objectives.
Objectives
- To promote and disseminate research and scholarship that informs pedagogic practice.
- To liaise with relevant external bodies.
- To advise members on matters relating to pedagogy.
- To undertake pedagogic research and consultancy.
- To represent the academic community on matters of policy and practice.
ACTIVITIES IN SUPPORT OT ITS AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
LTAG is active in a number of areas; it promotes pedagogy and the hospitality community through a number of activities. These activities include an annual conference, networking with other organisations and representation on national committees and working groups. The following are examples of LTAG's activities.
Conferences
LTAG supports its scholarship agenda through the annual research conference, a proportion of which is devoted to pedagogy. Pedagogy is a vibrant and growing theme within hospitality management education. Presentations at conference in the past 3 years indicate that CHME members are at the forefront of pedagogic research. Research topics have included internationalisation, plagiarism and the role of leadership in education.
Liaison with other groups
LTAG is well networked in the educational and hospitality communities. We are always open to discussion with organisations and groups interested in learning, teaching and assessment. At the moment, the main groups that we liaise with are:
- Higher Education Academy: Subject Network This liaison is of benefit to both parties; the chair of LTAG is a member of the network's steering group. As a result of this liaison LTAG is often the first port of call regarding developments in education. Additionally, members of CHME have taken advantage of pedagogic funding offered through the network, they have also been encouraged to publish in JoHLSTE and are contributors to LINK magazine.
- Council for Australian University Tourism and Hospitality Education (CAUTHE): Members of the CHME's executive have attended CAUTHE's conferences and this has been reciprocated. Discussions have been mutually beneficial and we hope to develop this further in the future.
- The International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators (ISTTE): (USA)The Chair through Sheffield Hallum University has joined the ISTTE. Discussions is still underway as to how we can best co-operate.
Representation on National Groups and Submissions to Working groups
An important aspect of our work is the increasingly frequent requests for representation on national groups and for submissions to working groups. These currently include
- QAA benchmarking
- Standard Framework for Teaching and Supporting Student Learning in Higher Education.
- Membership of the HE Academy
- UK Honours degrees.
- Employability statements
