Dr Richard Telling completed his PhD in Organisation and Management from Sheffield Hallam University in 2018. For his PhD, he explored the influence of family relationships on the employment preferences of offspring with a family business background. He studied Management at the University of Sheffield for his first degree, before studying International Hospitality Management at Sheffield Hallam University for his Master's degree. Richard joined Sheffield Hallam University in 2013 with a decade of experience working in the restaurant sector across pubs, casual dining chains and independent restaurants. He is a Principal Lecturer and teaches modules including strategic management and management consultancy. He supervises postgraduate dissertations in the fields of small business and entrepreneurship. Richard is the module leader for the Hospitality Management Consultancy module which offers all final year students the opportunity to have a live client experience with a real-life hospitality business. He also leads the overseas delivery of this module as part of a collaborative provision with SHAPE, Hong Kong. Richard is currently the External Examiner for Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh, for BA International Culinary Arts and BA International Hospitality and Tourism Management courses delivered at Silver Mountain School of Hospitality Management, Nepal.
