Robert

Robert has extensive experience working as a Hospitality and Tourism professional, in a wide variety of roles, both in the private and public sector.  Robert’s industrial experience spans 30 years working in a range of hospitality & tourism operations/management positions, in the private sector in the UK, Ireland and USA, including hotels, restaurants, bars and events catering.  In addition he has held Project and Development Management positons in the public sector, including the role of Chief Executive of the sector training council for Hospitality, Travel and Tourism in Northern Ireland, the Tourism Training Trust (predecessor to People 1st).  Robert is a lecturer in Food & Beverage Operations Management on the International Hospitality Management Programme within the Department of Hospitality and Tourism, at Ulster University.  Robert has particular responsibility for second year students in Food & Beverage Operations Management, Research Methods, Industrial Placement and Executive Food & Beverage Management in final year.   Robert also lectures on some of the Masters programmes delivered by the department.

During his career he has developed and delivered programmes for industry in areas such as business and personal development to assist business growth.  In addition he has worked to bring industry and education together through organising events to help people of all ages understand and gain skills required for working in this industry. 

Most recently Robert owned and managed a successful café franchise, prior to taking the post with the University.  Robert’s research interests include Food and Beverage Operations, Quality Issues/Management, Revenue Management, Urban Regeneration, Urban Tourism, Student Transition and Progression.
