Dr Maria Gebbels joined the University of Greenwich in August 2016 where she teaches on a range of courses for hospitality and tourism management programmes, at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Maria completed her PhD at the University of Brighton, with a specific focus on career development in the hospitality industry. Her area of expertise and research interests are career development in the hospitality industry, critical hospitality studies, application of life history methodology, as well as advancements in food and its relationship with culture and society. Maria is currently collaborating with other academics from national and international institutions on advancing the knowledge in the area of personology and professionalism in the hospitality industry, as well as developing an understanding of factors that enable women to progress to senior management roles in the hospitality industry. She is a Member of the Institute of Hospitality (MIH) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, which demonstrates her continuous commitment and engagement with the hospitality industry and a strong belief in sharing best practices in scholarship and pedagogy.”
